I was incredibly disappointed because this was a 10/10 tour for Architecture only, but we didn’t sign up for an architecture tour. We wanted to hear the history and stories of Asheville and we heard a TON of architecture and minor stories about Thomas Wolfe. We wanted to hear about slavery, civil rights, and interesting history. Really disappointed.
This was a very informative tour, and a great way to explore Asheville and learn about the city's history. We had never been to Asheville before, so it gave us a good overview of the area and allowed us to determine which areas we wanted to go back and explore in more detail. The tour guide was friendly, informative, and helpful when asked for restaurant and sight seeing tips. I definitely recommend this tour.
I highly recommended this informative and fun walking tour of downtown Asheville. I learned a great deal about the history of downtown Asheville and the Asheville community in general. The guide was knowledgeable, personable, and encouraged questions throughout the tour. It was not rushed and we were able to stop at notable locations such as the Grove Arcade, outside the Thomas Wolfe Memorial, the Basilica among other locations. The information I received and the experience overall was wonderful!
I learned a great deal about the history of downtown Asheville and the Asheville community in general. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and great with people!! I highly recommend this guided walking tour!! It was not rushed, questions were welcome, and to learn the when and why of the landscaping, building development, notable buildings of downtown, and the prominent people who contributed to Asheville development from the beginning to now was worthwhile.
Despite the unusually frigid windy morning, our guide, Mary, was cheerful and enthusiastic. The included earpieces really enhanced the experience, so despite the wind we didn’t miss a single word. We particularly enjoyed the literary connections, architectural insights, and Asheville history. Meeting in front of the Asheville Art Museum was easy and there is a convenient parking garage just a few doors down the same block.
The tour itself was okay, but the guide, Sharon, injected her political beliefs into her monologue twice. Both times she pushed a left-wing agenda of promoting the ideas of white privilege and white oppression that happened decades ago. That has no place on a city tour and it was uncomfortable. I would not recommend this tour until the guide leaves their political statements at home. I want a tour of the city, not a lecture on race relations.
The guide was very unenthusiastic. She sounded more like a last moment stand in. I don’t even know here name as she did not introduce herself. She could not even recommend a single restaurant Meanwhile next to us I saw free walking tour with a very enthusiastic guide who was telling an interesting story about the building that our guide had only a few words for. I wished we took that free walking tour instead
