Our guide, Shandrea, was the perfect host for our sunrise tour. She knew the perfect location, angle and light for every shot and also helped my grandson with some great photo tips with his phone camera. At the Big Hogan, she serenaded us with a song in her Navajo language and then at the Anasazi ruins she played the native flute as we looked at the petroglyphs on the walls. She shared many stories about Navajo culture and traditions and gave us so much insight into the way of life for the people living in Monument Valley. I would tour with Shandrea again at the next opportunity
One of the top highlights of our recent trip to the Southwest was taking the Sunrise tour with Monument Valley Tribal Tours with our guide Reever. We highly recommend both! Since we were able to watch the sunset from our balcony at the View Hotel, we chose to take the sunrise tour. Reever was at the hotel - on time as promised - in a warm SUV, and the three of us entered the park by 7:00AM. The scenery is as spectacular as imagined. Reever did an excellent job of being at the right place as the sun was coming up and we have hundreds of photos to prove it. But besides the sheer beauty of the valley, the biggest take away from our sunrise tour was what we learned about the Navajo culture. Reever is an enthusiastic ambassador for his heritage, sharing his knowledge of its traditions, spirituality, and customs. And being a small group, we had the wonderful opportunity to ask a lot of questions, that Reever was more than willing to answer. The tour was a much better way to see the valley than doing a “self-drive”; we were able to access parts that are not open to the public and our guide helped us better understand why it is considered to be sacred ground to the Navajo people.
Magnificent tour - sunrise, Navajo rug-making demonstration. Marjorie was excellent. We saw back-country sites not seen from the 17 mile scenic drive. The wind from the vehicle is real - dress warmly. Confirm the current time with the tour operator - time zones are confusing!
Our guide Larry was very nice and gave us a great tour of the valley. Ran a little behind time, our fault, and missed the village but he told us a cool story of the Navaho and sang. Some confusion on the information on show time between standard time and day light time. Needs clarification from Viator.
A breathtaking experience. Sandrea was our excellent guide. She shared much of the spiritual nature of the Valley to the Navajo people and much of herself. Always open to questions and helpful. We arrived for a perfect sunrise and toured the backcountry.
We had an amazing sunrise tour with SANDREA and she sang to us in her native Navajo language and told us of customs passed down to her by her top medicine man dad who was John holiday sr. Who died at 100 years old and wrote a book. Another tour guide actually did a spiritual prayer chant for me and it was an enchanting experience specially at sunrise. Reever really set us up with a great tour!
